Recently there has been considerable movement and convergence between the fields science and engineering. The results have been fascinating. Smart technology for textiles and materials and structure is one of these results.

What is a smart material/structure?

e.g simple single cell iving creature

Various environmental conditions/stimuli at on outer layer.

Passive smart : only sense the environmental conditions/stumuli

Active smart : will sense and react to environmental conditions/stumuli

Very smart : will sense, react and adapt to environmental conditions/stimuli

Skin is a layer of smart material (active smart) – detects stimuli and reacts/

Ionic – relating to an atom of small group of atoms that have an electrical charge as it has added/lost one or more electorons.

Electrolysis – the use of an electric current to cause a chemical change in a liquid.

Heat storage materials.
