This December, we're transforming our Instagram account into a dynamic advent calendar to celebrate the festive season, design and Dundee. The "doors" have been specially designed for us by a selection of talented designers in and around Dundee. Behind each door, we’ll be sharing some exciting new updates from the museum, so make sure you check the calendar every day to see what surprises we have in store. Ahead of the Year of Young People 2018, many of the doors have been designed by current Dundee students, to represent the future of Scottish design.

We are privileged to showcase their work; the range of approaches, styles and interpretation wowed us and we can’t wait to share them all with you.

My PrOPOSAL

My idea was to raise awareness about the history behind the Tay Bridge. I found out that it was the longest bridge in the world at the time it was built, which is a very little-known fact among students.

From far away this looks like a photo, however up close you realise it’s just made up of single coloured dots. I relate this to the Tay Rail Bridge: from far away, you see a normal bridge. But up close you see the stumps that used to be the old bridge and realise that there is important history behind this.

I was chosen ro represent 17th of December.
